This book contains Folio drawings of both Heavyweight (steel) and
Lightweight (Aluminum & Stainless Steel) cars that were in service on the
main as well as branch lines of the Southern. Some of the older cars shown
had been modernized by this time with air conditioning and other amenities.
Because the Southern Railway had trains running across the south, they
had to comply with the "Jim Crow" laws which mandated separate but
equal facilities for passengers that were not white. These car folios
show the equipment as they truly were during this time in history.
The drawings are essentially blueprints that a skilled employee could
recognize, repair, and service equipment that was in service.
This data is something that each railroad had on hand for their crews operating
the trains and the shops in the areas concerned. In the case where repairs
were necessary these were used to help restore damaged equipment.
Due to the poor quality of the originals many of the folios required editing.
This book contains 96 pages with 154 drawings, tables, & illustrations.
