The Nickel Plate Road

S2 Berkshire 2-8-4 Locomotives

The Berkshires that ran ont eh Nickel Plate were and still are considered
some of the nicest looking steam locomotives ever built.

They wheel arrangement came about from a designer expanding the standard WW1 USRA Mikado
giving it more firebox area and thus more boiler area. These locos were among those in the country that
are considered the "Superpower" steam locomotives. This book shows one of the members of the S2 class
in great detail and includes a copy of the actual mechanical departments folio drawing of them.

Below are some sample pages from the book.
