This FULL COLOR book shows the details and weathering variations between
these five surviving cars of this class. The other 95 cars are now gone.
Built in 1887, these are the oldest flat cars still existing on the D&RGW
when their narrow gauge lines ended service. Four of the cars were
transferred to the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and are still
there today. The other car ended up at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
Though these cars all started from the same place, by the nature of their assignments, there are accessories above the deck level that are different.
Two of the cars had a second gondola-like level added above an open are
and were used to carry both rails and ties at the same time. Two of the
cars became tenders/idler cars for larger pieces of MOW equipment.
One is with Pile Driver OB while the other is with Derrick OP.
The final survivor is a car set up to carry four complete wheelsets
in brackets on one end and the other has a corral for more ties.
