This book contains drawings of the equipment that was operating throughout

the New York Central Railroad System in the years leading up to and through

the end of the Great Depression and into most of the Second World War.

The New York Central System ran from the Midwestern US factories and farms

to the embarkation ports of the east coast and as such carried a large amount of

the materials and troops bound for the European and North African theaters of war.

The drawings are essentially blueprints that a skilled employee could recognize, repair, and service equipment that was in service. While much of the equipment

in here was built for the NYC and subsidiary lines some was built by them

in their own shops using their own designs and copies of proven designs.

This data is something that each railroad had on hand for their crews operating

the trains and the shops in the areas concerned. In the case where a derailment occurred and repairs were necessary in other shops, a copy of the folio diagram sheets for the cars concerned often was sent to help restore damaged equipment. Due to the poor quality of the originals many of the folios required editing

Included are all the major car types and subtypes used throughout the system

and interchanged throughout the United States. In most cases this includes tables with car numbers and other specific data for those classes and sub groups.
